FOOTBALL season is almost here and on August 23, select Digiplex locations lead a nationwide release of a compelling documentary that every fan and family of a player should see. The United States of Football explores the cumulative effects of repetitive trauma in America's Game from Pee Wee leagues to the pros. The film follows a father's quest for an answer to the question, "Should my kid play?" From Bountygate to the challenges faced in youth leagues by shortfalls in knowledge or funding, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Sean Pamphilon takes a tough look at what will be needed in order to save the players as well as the sport we love. Featuring Bob Costas, Mike Ditka, Kyle Turley, Jim Brown, Chris Henry, Malcolm Gladwell and James Harrison.

In conjunction with the movie, audiences can expect live in-theater appearances from legendary football stars on opening night. Digiplex will host a live Question and Answer Session with the filmmaker and featured former players. A portion of box office proceeds will go to the Kevin Turner Foundation and the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. Visit www.diginextfilms.com or www.theusof.com for more.

SHARKS - In 1975, JAWS took a major bite out of the summer box office, but in 2013 it seems like one shark just isn’t enough. On August 3, the Twitter sensation that merged sharks and tornados finds its way to the big screen for the absurdly thrilling Sharknado. This time, swarms of sharks in the water have an uplifting experience thanks to an unanticipated tornado and they’re coming at the audience from everywhere…even flying through the air! After seeing this movie you’ll be just as likely to look up in the sky the next time you hear someone shout, “Shark!”

LAUGHS – As a follow-up to his first successful stand up film, SINBAD returns to the screen on August 22 for a single presentation of Make Me Wanna Holla.Originally recorded last August at The Fillmore in Detroit, it promises the funkiest stand-up ever and will give audiences the chance to see, in his own words, ”the dark side – the Memphis red side of Sinbad.”

Audience members talking during a movie can be annoying, but when they’re the Rifftrax gang (Michael Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett from Mystery Science Theater 3000) they are the best part of the show. On August 15, Digiplex presents a special version of the film regarded as the king of campy sci-fi epochs, Rifftrax Live: Starship Troopers.

MUSIC On a blistering summer day in 1972, the Grateful Dead took the stage on the grounds of the Oregon Country Fair for what would become one of the most legendary concerts of the band's storied history. Previously unreleased "Sunshine Daydream" is part of "Grateful Dead Meet Up at the Movies 2013"on August 1. It features concert footage as well as recent interviews with Ken Babbs, Sam Cutler, Wavy Gravy and Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia.

On August 13, over 30 of the greatest living guitarists are in one place at one time for one amazing show. Madison Square Garden in New York City is the scene for an unforgettable evening of virtuoso music in Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013. Clapton is joined by guitar masters from B.B. King, Matt “Guitar” Murphy and Taj Mahal to Jeff Beck, Vince Gill, Steve Cropper and many more.

BALLET and DANCE round out the Digiplex calendar. On August 4, audiences will be transported to exotic India with an encore performance of La Bayadere (the temple dancer) presented by the Bolshoi Ballet. On August 25 and 27, the Bolshoi returns with a classic audience favorite that has been called a mighty Egyptian fresco. The Pharaoh’s Daughter follows an English Lord on an expedition to the pyramids where reality and fantasy merge and ancient mysteries weave a complicated love story.

The big screen comes alive with a vivid and wonderful display of flamenco from Madrid’s Teatro Real on August 11 and 13. Based on a play by Federico Lorca, Bodas de sangre (blood wedding)is a story of passion and revenge told through the costumes and forms of Spain’s greatest contribution to the world of dance. Antonio Gades’ eight part Suite Flamenca, completes a spectacular evening of dance.
