Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater Hosts Stunning Performances for the Holidays

BLOOMFIELD, CT  (Oct. 21, 2011) – Tickets are on sale now for live, high definition showings of the Metropolitan Opera at the Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater at the Wintonbury Mall (863 Park Avenue) as part of The Met: Live in HD. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and can be purchased on-line at www.digiplexdest.com, or at the box office.

Mozart’s Don Giovanni will be performed live on Oct. 29, followed by Siegfried, the third of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Nov. 5. Philip Glass’ imagining of the life of Ghandi, Satyagraha, comes to Bloomfield on Nov. 19. December opens with George Frideric Handel’s masterpiece, Rodelinda, on the third, and Gounod’s Faust, in which a man sells his soul to the Devil, Dec. 10. The operas star Stephanie Blythe, David Daniels, Natalie Dessay, Joyce DiDonato, and Plácido Domingo, among others. Showtimes vary between noon and 1 p.m.

Check www.digiplexdest.com  for a complete schedule of encore replays of these classics for a reduced price of $20 p.p.

The Metropolitan Opera in New York is one of the most popular and well respected operas in the world, with over 800,000 attendees per season. The Met: Live in HD is now in its sixth and largest season, being broadcast to 1,600 theaters in 54 countries. More than 2.6 million tickets were sold to Live in HD performances around the world last season.

Digiplex Destinations, a new movie theater chain in northern New Jersey and Connecticut, uses all digital streaming and HD projection to bring these performances by the Met to theater audiences in real time with big, theater quality sound.

“We’ve tapped into a vast network of fans who love live opera but aren’t so crazy about fighting their way into New York,” says A. Dale “Bud” Mayo, Digiplex Destinations chairman/CEO. “We’ve experienced sell-out performances months in advance, all enabled by the digital cinema transformation we completed last summer. Now we can easily add more screens to meet the demand, which, we’re pleased to say, apparently exists for live opera in HD.”
