Film Festival Allows Drama and Performing Arts Students a Chance to See Film Offering inside Look into the Lives of Broadway’s Unsung Heroes

NEW YORK, NY –December 6, 2012-- The DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival announced today, their “Pay It Forward” program where individuals interested in supporting filmmakers can provide the opportunity to see a film for those who otherwise may not have that chance.  The program is set to kick off on Monday December 10in conjunction with the theatrical release of The Standbys starting on Friday December 7Produced and Directed by Stephanie Riggs and Executive Producers John C. Pinckard, Lily Fan, and Steven C. Beer, this evocative and original behind-the-scenes documentary offers a look at the unique and challenging lives of Broadway’s Understudies and Standbys.

A joint venture between Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. (Digiplex Destinations) and Nehst, the DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival provides opportunities for talented, emerging filmmakers without previous distribution the chance to reach an appreciative audience of targeted movie aficionados.  In conjunction with its distribution efforts, DigiNext has made hundreds of tickets available to high school and college drama students who can, in turn, learn valuable lessons about commitment and perseverance that may be the very key to their future success.

More than a dozen schools and local theater groups located near Digiplex theaters in Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania will benefit from the generosity of these anonymous Pay It Forward benefactors.

The program will be showcased at Newark’s Arts High School on December 10 where students will assemble for a special screening and chance to meet the director and some of the actors featured in the film. Newark Arts is a magnet school known for its rigorous academic program. Many well-known names in the arts and entertainment world hail from Newark including Whitney Houston, Paul Simon, Bebe Neuwirth (who appears in The Standbys) and Ray Liotta.  Savion Glover is among Arts High School’s most notable alumni.

The Standbysfollows three undiscovered performers for several years through their ups and downs, struggles and triumphs, onstage performances and private lives. When these Standbys are finally given the chance of a lifetime, anything can – and does – happen. Never-before-heard stories from industry insiders and celebrities alike reveal the unimaginable struggles these under-appreciated performers endure as they wait in the wings for their shot at a dream that may never come true.

A breakthrough for filmmakers and movie enthusiasts alike, the DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival will recreate the excitement of the film festival experience in eight local Digiplex theaters (full list follows below) showcasing selectively chosen American independent movies and award-winning foreign language films featured at the top 20 international and domestic film festivals.  To further the enhanced movie-going experience, the series will include Q&A sessions with filmmakers, both in-person and via Skype, as well as celebrity appearances and gift bag giveaways for attendees.
