DIGIPLEX BLOOMFIELD 8 THEATER
LAUNCHES MOSCOW BOLSHOI BALLET SERIES;
SWAN LAKE COMES TO THE SILVER SCREEN
Sat., July 2 and Sun., July 3 at 12:30 p.m., and Wed., July 6, 8 p.m.
BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (June 17, 2011) – Can’t find time to get to the ballet? Now the ballet is coming to you. The Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater in Bloomfield is launching the first in a series of pre-recorded performances of the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet, starting July 2 with Swan Lake in high definition. It’s an encore presentation that rivals a center row orchestra seat in a live theater. You could say it’s ballet for a popcorn-eating audience made possible by the conversion of theaters from 35 millimeter film projectors to digital technology.
Show times are 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3, and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, with doors opening 30 minutes in advance. Purchase tickets for $15 to Swan Lake or other ballet performances in the Bolshoi Ballet Series at the box office or online at www.digiplexdest.com. The Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater is located at 863 Park Avenue (Wintonbury Mall), Bloomfield.
The battle between the white and black swan unfolds with savage grace in Swan Lake. Tchaikovsky’s haunting music traces the steps of prima ballerina Mariya Aleksandrova as she dances the roles of both Odette and Odile in this definitive production from the Bolshoi Ballet.
The performance is conducted by Pavel Sorokin; choreography by Yuri Grigorovich after Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov, and Alexander Gorsky. The Bolshoi Theatre is the national theater of Russia, the epitome of Russian musical tradition and the international center of the music culture.
The Digiplex Bloomfield 8 will also welcome these other performances in the Bolshoi Ballet Series: The Flames of Paris, July 10 and 13; Don Quixote, July 24 and 27; Coppelia, Aug 7 and 10; Children of Paradise, Aug. 21 and 24; Giselle, Sept. 11 and 14; Mediterranea, Sept. 25 and 28; and Caligula, Oct. 9 and 12. Check www.digiplexdest.com for exact times.
The Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater, along with two New Jersey theaters – the Digiplex Rialto Theater of Westfield and the Digiplex Cranford Theater – are the first three Digiplex Destinations theaters in the nation. They are the foundation of a chain of all-digital theaters that digital theater pioneer and entrepreneur A. Dale “Bud” Mayo is building across the U.S. with his team at Digital Cinema Destinations Corp., located above the Digiplex Rialto Theater of Westfield, N.J.
In addition to commercial movies, Digiplex theaters offer a full range of alternative programming such as pop concerts, live sports events, motivational talks, religious ceremonies, and children’s series.
