WORLD FAMOUS OPERA COMES TO THE BIG SCREEN

Digiplex Digital Cinemas in Cranford, N.J., and Bloomfield, Conn.,

Host Wagner’s Ring Cycle Via The Metropolitan Opera, May 9 - 19

WESTFIELD, N.J.  (Mar. 22, 2012) –Digiplex Destinations, a new and innovative chain of digital cinema theaters, will bring Richard Wagner’s renowned cycle of four operas, as performed by The Metropolitan Opera in New York, to Digiplex theaters in New Jersey and Connecticut, starting on May 9. A special movie presentation of Wagner’s Dream, which chronicles the making of the epic cycle, kicks off the series on May 7.

Der Ring des Nibelungen, more commonly known as The Ring Cycle, tells a story from ancient Norse sagas in operatic form. First performed in 1869, music from the operas remain familiar to modern day listeners, and the final opera, Gotterdammerung, is widely held to be the inspiration for the phrase “It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.”

The center of the story is a ring that grants the power to rule the world, forged by a magic dwarf who stole the gold used to make it from the maidens who guard the Rhine river. The first part, Das Rheingold(“The Rhine Gold”) opens in Cranford, N.J. and Bloomfield, Conn. on May 9; Die Walkure (“The Valkyrie”) on May 14; Siegfried on May 16 and Gotterdammerung (“Twilight of the Gods”) on May 19.

Showtimes for all are 6:30 p.m., except Gotterdammerung, which starts at 12 noon, and lasts for about five hours. Audiences may call the theaters for pricing information.

“The Ring Cycle is one of the most powerful and well known operas in the world,” said A. Dale “Bud” Mayo, Digiplex Destinations chairman/CEO. “Wagner’s passion for the masculine, Germanic style of opera electrified audiences when it opened, and we’re confident the outstanding talent at The Met will do the same for hometown audiences today.”

The Digiplex Cranford Theater is located at 25 North Avenue, Cranford, and the Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater is located at 863 Park Avenue (Wintonbury Mall), Bloomfield, Conn. For more information: www.digiplexdest.com
