Across Africa's Sahara Desert
NEW YORK, NY – March 8, 2013 – Today,The DigiNext In-Venue Film Festivalannounced the theatrical release of Running the Sahara. This powerful and inspirational film chronicles an attempt by three ultra-marathoners to run across the entire length of Africa's Sahara Desert, tackling not only the elements, but also unimaginable physical and emotional obstacles. The film highlights a grueling test of will coupled with the chance to accomplish something that no known person has ever achieved. Running the Sahara, a feature documentary narrated and executive produced by Academy Award winner Matt Damon and directed by Academy Award winner James Moll, is set to debut in theatres on March 15th.
A joint venture between Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. and Nehst, the DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival provides opportunities for talented, under-the-radar and emerging filmmakers to reach an appreciative audience of targeted movie aficionados for a week-long period. With newly acquired theatres across Arizona, California, New Jersey and Ohio, the DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival has a rapidly expanding footprint across the U.S. in leading media markets.
“This is a compelling movie with a great story, exotic imagery and a soundtrack that will engage audiences who don’t have to be runners,” said Chairman and CEO Bud Mayo. “Our patrons will also enjoy a unique opportunity to participate in a conversation with all the film’s principals after the main screening on opening night, asking questions by text messaging and hearing the panel’s live responses at theaters all across the country.”
“Running the Saharais a great film showcasing the commitment, pride and determination that we each hold within,” said Nehst cofounder and Chairman Larry Meistrich. “The film is an inspiration for those who put their mind toward achieving something and don’t give in until they’ve reached the end.”
Running the Saharafollows three men, Charlie Engle from the United States, Kevin Lin from Taiwan, and Ray Zahab from Canada, who have run together in marathons before. This time they have set out on test of will and a chance to accomplish something that no known person has ever achieved; running across six African countries, anticipating two marathons per day, for eighty days- without a day off. The film offers audiences a chance to relive the runners’ life-changing experience, watching them brave the elements in one of the most extreme environments on Earth, while meeting the unique people of the Sahara and struggling with immense daily challenges.
A breakthrough for filmmakers and consumers alike, the DigiNext In-Venue Film Festival will recreate the excitement of the film festival experience in eighteen local Digiplex theaters (full list follows below) showcasing selectively chosen American independent movies and award-winning foreign language films featured at the top 20 international and domestic film festivals.
